Inside Hey Tyto
How Hey Tyto Measures AI Visibility (And What We Don't Do)
A plain explanation of what we check, how we score it, what you get every week, and the things we deliberately don't do, like touching your website.

If you're going to pay for a report, you should know exactly how the numbers in it are made. Here's how Hey Tyto measures AI visibility, start to finish, including the limits.
The idea in one paragraph
We ask the AI assistants your customers use the same questions your customers ask, the same way every week, and we record who gets recommended. Then we compare you with the businesses named instead of you, work out what they have that you don't, and turn that into a short list of fixes. You make the fixes. The next week's check shows what moved.
- 1
Check
Ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity your customers' questions.
- 2
Plan
Rank what to fix next by what should win you the most jobs.
- 3
Fix
You or your web person make the change, with exact steps and wording.
- 4
Report
Each month, see your AI recommendations over time, and what changed.
1. The questions
Everything starts with the questions, because a bad question gives a meaningless score. We build them from your trade, your towns and the jobs you most want, and we write them the way real customers ask, never with your business name in them:
- A plain ask: “Best pool builder in Scottsdale?”
- A local, urgent ask: “Who can fix a pool pump this week near Mesa?”
- A specific need: “Who builds saltwater pools in Phoenix?”
- A trust ask: “Licensed and insured pool builders in Gilbert?”
Once set, the questions stay the same week to week. That's what makes the trend meaningful. If we changed the questions, a rise or fall in your score could just mean we asked something easier or harder.
2. The four assistants
We check ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Gemini is Google's assistant, so it also reflects how Google's own AI sees you. Each one searches the web differently, so a business can be named by one and missed by another in the same week. We report each separately so you can see where the gap is.
Why these four? They're the assistants people actually use for recommendations. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey, 45% of US consumers had used an AI tool for a local business recommendation in the past year, with ChatGPT the most used.
3. How we score it
The core number is simple: out of all the answers, how many named you? Your free snapshot uses 4 questions across 4 assistants, so 16 answers. If 3 of them name you, your snapshot says “Named in 3 of 16.” No secret formula, no weighting you can't check.
Around that number we record:
- Who was named instead of you, and how often, so you see your real competitors in AI answers. They're not always the ones you'd expect.
- The reason the AI gave for each name, which shows what each business is known for in the AI's eyes.
- Which assistants name you and which don't, which usually points to the cause.
- The trend over time, because a single week can be noisy.

- Perplexity0

4. From numbers to fixes
A score alone doesn't help you. So for every gap we look at what the named businesses have and you don't: a page for that town, a service you offer but never mention, reviews that describe the work, a Google profile with missing services, inconsistent listings. Each becomes a fix with:
- What to change and where, in plain words
- Exact steps, short enough to do between jobs
- Suggested wording you can copy and paste
- A priority, ranked by what should win you the most jobs
Our fixes lean on what the research supports. The original GEO study found that clear statistics, citations and quotations raised visibility in AI answers by up to 40% on its benchmark, so specific, verifiable facts about your business show up often in our recommendations. For the general playbook, see 10 GEO fixes for local service businesses.
What we don't do
Being clear about this matters as much as the method:
- We never touch your website. We don't log in to it or change it. You decide which fixes to make.
- We never change your accounts. If you share Google or CRM data with us, it's read-only.
- We don't run ads or buy placements. There's no way to pay for a spot in regular AI answers, and we wouldn't sell it if there were.
- We don't promise rankings. Nobody controls what AI says. We measure honestly and tell you what's most likely to help.
- We don't sell your data. Your report and your data belong to you.

Questions and answers
Which AI assistants does Hey Tyto check?
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity. Gemini is Google's assistant, so it also shows how Google's AI sees your business.
How is the Hey Tyto score calculated?
It's the share of AI answers that name your business, out of a fixed set of customer questions asked in each assistant. The free snapshot uses 4 questions in 4 assistants, 16 answers in total.
Does Hey Tyto make changes to my website?
No. We never log in to or change your website. We send you ranked fixes with exact steps and suggested wording, and you or your web person make the changes.
Can Hey Tyto guarantee AI will recommend me?
No one can guarantee that, because no one controls what AI assistants say. We measure every week, tell you what's most likely to help, and show you honestly what changed.
How much does Hey Tyto cost?
The snapshot is free. The full plan is $199 a month with no contract, and you can cancel anytime.
